Reading Tim Noakes' book was such a joy. We like his ability to challenge accepted beliefs. He or she has a knack for picking apart conventional values to see if they are true. If you enjoyed Lore of Running, you will like this guide. In it he goes through his latest research on nutrition and hydration needs of endurance sports athletes. You may be surprised as I was to determine that you don't need all those salt tablets during a marathon, that muscle cramping are not caused by a insufficient sodium in the body, and that dehydration does not cause heatstroke., Hello. An overcomer is always worth reading about, and tim Noakes is a modern cowboy scientist if I actually read of one. The writing is actually good. Zero foul language (which appears to be popular in modern books), and lots of life-changing wisdom along the way. Highly recommend!, Excellent read! Amazing to hear the facts from a true insider. Must appreciate someone welling to step up to the plate and condition that they were wrong (right along with most of conventional medicine) when it comes to understanding diet's impact on our health and longevity. I enjoyed this guide a lot. That reinforced a lot of what I already knew was going on inside of medication and medical research. Yet I also learned a lot too. Dr. Noakes is very intelligent and more importantly, has his center in the right place. He was obviously motivated to became a doctor because of a sincere need to help humanity get and stay well. Fortunately, he has never lost sight of the despite an long and distinguished career. It quickly becomes clear as you read this guide that this individual is not motivated by greed or a lust for the biggest house on the block. He or she sincere sets his medical & research path via objective science and not personal financial gain. Gotta respect someone for that in this age of " Me, Me, Me personally. " Check out this book. That will change the way you look at medication and science., The great thing about remote masters is that they can not refuse you as an apprentice.
I am happy to spend years in understanding what Tim Noakes have researched for many years. I feel not a professional sportsman, even not very exceptional amateur one, but challenges, moral, scientific and physical that are described in Tim's works inspire myself for my own personal experiments. Life is a never ending experiment itself, and this is the only way to make it full and satisfying.

The book is an exceptional summary of Tim's works. Those who have not read any of his titles are highly suggested to start from this one.
Individuals who (like me) are his frequent readers and followers in Internet, will find new and eventually forgotten parallels between his works, plenty of facts, as well several tweaks, memories and latest improvements. Also, plenty info was never published in a single place and worth reading in any case., I are not able to believe that I had formed not heard of this book before. I happened to fall after it on my Kindle. I wish that I had check out this guide years ago. All endurance sports men/women should check out this book. What an eye-opener. I am following the Tim Noakes Banting diet and the chapter on Nutrition is great ancillary reading to the Real Meal Revolution. I feel not that interested in the rugby and cricket aspect of the book, but so many men/sportsmen would learn a lot about past political involvement in these two sports, as well as his research on injuries and preventing injuries. Buy the guide - It covers so much., This guide certainly does challenge some long kept beliefs. Tim Noakes is no stranger to dispute and this book carries on this trend. His "challenges" regarding marathon athletes and dehydration have been proven correct and a common practioner relation of mine feels he may again be correct in the latest claims regarding "fat free" diets. Challenging Beliefs: Memoirs of a Career , Being a chronic perception challenger and in serious opposition to going with the " they say" sheep I had formed to read this book.
I recently overheard a conversation in a java shop where someone said " Tim Noakes, who is he? What does this individual know. "
This book will answer that question. Tim Noakes has every right to challenge the beliefs that he does as this individual can back up his challenge with years of scientific research, not only in laboratories, but in the field. I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind., An eye fixed opening read into the machinations of industry and how they fool us all into thinking that something is " good for us" when we don't actually need it. Dr Noakes is very forthright in his criticisms but good unlike those which have something to gain (profit/prestige).
I've not yet finished it but feel confident I will enjoy the 2nd half as much as the first.
A minimal critisism is some of the technical jargon that will get used occasionally but that is nothing a dictionary can't cure.
