1,300 pounds of marijuana seized in traffic stop - Mississippi

Two men were arrested in Warren County on Sunday for allegedly hauling nearly 1,300 pounds of marijuana in a tractor trailer.

The Motor Carrier Division of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol stopped an 18-wheeler for an inspection around 1:20 a.m. on I-20 east near the Flowers exit, authorities said.

Trooper Scott Henley said the driver and passenger were acting strangely and troopers were given consent to search the vehicle.

Henley said the drugs were found in a hiden compartment in the wall of the trailer.

“I saw anomalies in the trailer. I could tell it was different from a normal trailer,” Henley said.

Henley said the two suspects said they were traveling from California to Atlanta. The truck is owned by a Redwood, Calif. company, he said.

The two suspects are being held in Warren County Jail. MHP would not release the names of the suspects, but according to the Warren County Jail docket, Alex Rugama, 25, and Enrique Ayala, 31, both of California, were booked Sunday morning at 2:40 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
