Explosives truck catches fire near Moose Jaw - Canada
REGINA — An explosive situation was narrowly averted Saturday morning after a semi unit carrying 43,000 pounds of dynamite caught fire in Moose Jaw.
Sgt. Marc Girard with the Moose Jaw Police Service said around 6:15 a.m., the truck’s driver began noticing problems with his semi unit and proceeded to pull into the parking lot of the Shell Truck Stop on the North Service Road.
“The driver noted that his truck was labouring so then he heard some popping noise, which in turn would have been the tires blowing. (He) then pulled in and found a fire going on his trailer,” Girard said.
When the driver stopped in the service station parking lot, he found the rear brake drums, tires and underside of the trailer were on fire. A 9-1-1 call was made to report the fire and also made emergency services aware of the large load of dynamite in the semi-trailer. More from Canada.com
The fire was apparently caused by faulty brakes. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.
