DELANCO, N.J. - Jevic Transportation Inc. officials say the trucking company will be discontinuing services after 27 years in business.

David H. Gorman, president and CEO of the Burlington County firm, says the move comes as a result of high fuel costs, an economic downturn, increasing insurance costs and tightening credit markets.

In a letter posted on the company’s Web site, Gorman says the company will stop providing pickup services effective Monday. However, some employees will remain through the “wind down” period and the company will deliver all freight in its system before it closes.

Jevic, which has more than 1,000 employees, was founded in 1981.
