Crime Of The Times: Diesel Stolen From Trucks
VALPARAISO, Ind. (CBS) ― It’s a crime of the times. With gas prices skyrocketing, area police report an increase in thefts of fuel.
So far this year, thieves hit eight truckers at one gas station in Valparaiso, Ind., alone, to the tune of more than $4,000.
CBS 2 Northwest Indiana Bureau Chief Pamela Jones reports Barjinder Singh pays $1,100 for gas to run his truck from New Jersey to Chicago. He says it used to cost $800. His cost rose with diesel fuel prices.
And now another cost of business — criminals stealing from $300 to more than $600 worth of fuel from truckers’ tanks.
It’s a loss that could run some drivers out of business.
“I could run it maybe for a few months, not more than that,” one driver said.
It happened to three truckers at a Pilot truck stop off U.S. 30 on Sunday. Police are still trying to figure out how. More from CBS2Chicago
The ‘New Wave’ Of Politics

My Fellow Americans:
I am hearing more and more from my listeners and readers the phrase, “vote the bums out!”…
The voices I’m hearing are right about people being ‘fed up’ with the same old ‘business as usual’ attitude in Washington, DC and our State Capitols…
People are upset with both the Democrat and Republican parties. They feel that they have been betrayed by both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid…
The fastest growing voting sector across America is now the Independent voter, or ‘I’, for short. Voter registrations have been and are being changed to Independent…
“Operation Chaos” has created an ‘illusion’ that the Democratic Party is growing in numbers when in fact the Presidential Primary process has been ‘manipulated’ by some Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh who started this movement… Read more »
Arizona Sheriff’s Sweeps on Solid Legal Ground
PHOENIX —
Maricopa County’s top prosecutor said Tuesday that the sheriff recent high-profile sweeps in metropolitan Phoenix were legal if his officers followed rules prohibiting racial profiling and unwarranted traffic stops.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has drawn criticism that the sweeps in three heavily Hispanic areas during late March and early April were thinly veiled immigration patrols fraught with racial profiling.
The sweeps led Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon to request a federal investigation of Arpaio for possible civil rights violations. The U.S. Justice Department has declined to comment on the request. More from Officer.com
Good for Sheriff Joe! Besides, stands to reason if you are in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, you will pick up a majority of Hispanics.
